Admissions to Springwell Lincolnshire
We understand that finding the right educational environment for young people facing challenges in mainstream settings can be a complex journey. Here, you’ll find information about how students are admitted to our specialist alternative provision academies across Lincolnshire.
Our Commitment to Every Student
At Springwell Lincolnshire, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing, inclusive, and highly supportive learning environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We believe in unlocking the potential within each young person, helping them to re-engage with education and prepare for a successful future.
Who We Support
Our academies provide specialist alternative provision for young people who require an approach to education different from that offered in a mainstream school. Students are typically admitted to Springwell Lincolnshire academies through two primary routes:
- Permanent Exclusion: For young people who have been permanently excluded from their mainstream school. We work to provide stability, support, and a pathway forward following an exclusion.
- Intervention Placement: For young people at significant risk of permanent exclusion from their mainstream school. These are often 16-week intervention placements designed to provide intensive support, re-engagement strategies, and to assess the most appropriate long-term educational provision.
Our Referral Process
Admissions to Springwell Lincolnshire academies are not made by direct parental application in the same way as mainstream schools. Instead, placements are initiated through:
- Referral by Lincolnshire Local Authority: Following a permanent exclusion, the Local Authority will work with families and Springwell to identify suitable provision within Springwell Lincolnshire.
- Referral by Mainstream Schools: Mainstream schools can refer students for intervention placements where they are at significant risk of exclusion, working in collaboration with the Local Authority and Springwell.
We work in close partnership with Lincolnshire Local Authority, local schools, and a range of external agencies to ensure that each student receives an educational package tailored to their individual needs, challenges, and aspirations.
What Happens Next?
Once a referral is made and a potential placement at a Springwell Lincolnshire academy is identified:
- Assessment and Planning: Our team will review the student’s needs, academic history, and any relevant reports to ensure we can provide the most appropriate support.
- Induction and Integration: We have a supportive induction process designed to help new students settle in, understand our expectations, and begin to build positive relationships with staff and peers.
- Personalised Pathways: Every student at Springwell Lincolnshire benefits from a highly personalised learning pathway, focusing on their academic progress, social and emotional development, and preparation for their next steps.
Our Goals for Every Student
Whether a student joins us following a permanent exclusion or for an intervention placement, our ultimate goal is to support them towards a positive future. This may include:
- Successful Reintegration: Where appropriate, supporting a phased return to a mainstream school.
- Transition to Specialist Provision: Facilitating a smooth transition to a more suitable special school setting.
- Positive Post-16 Pathways: Equipping students with the skills, qualifications, and confidence to successfully transition into further education, employment, or training.
