PE and Sport Premium
Empowering Students Through Activity
Our Vision for PE and Sport
At Springwell Lincolnshire, we believe in the transformative power of physical education and sport. It is far more than just exercise; it is a vital tool for building resilience, fostering teamwork, and nurturing positive mental and physical well-being.
Our PE curriculum is designed to be fully inclusive, engaging, and challenging for every student. We aim to provide a safe and supportive environment where pupils can develop physical literacy, discover new interests, and build the confidence and self-esteem that will benefit them across all areas of their lives. For our students, physical activity provides a crucial outlet for emotional expression and is fundamental to developing skills in self-regulation and focus.
What is the PE and Sport Premium?
The PE and Sport Premium is a government-funded initiative designed to improve the provision of physical education (PE), sport, and physical activity in primary schools. This funding is ring-fenced, meaning it can only be spent on making sustainable improvements to the quality of our PE and sport offering.
Our Aims for the Sport Premium at Springwell Lincolnshire
We use the Sport Premium funding to achieve our key objectives, which are tailored to the unique needs of our students:
- To foster a lifelong love of activity: We aim to expose students to a wide range of sports and physical activities, helping them find something they genuinely enjoy and can pursue beyond their time at school.
- To boost health, well-being, and self-regulation: We directly link physical activity to mental health, using sport as a tool to improve concentration, reduce anxiety, and develop coping strategies.
- To develop staff expertise and confidence: We invest in high-quality training and continuous professional development (CPD) for our staff to ensure they can deliver outstanding, adaptive, and inspiring PE lessons.
- To provide diverse and inclusive opportunities: We ensure all students have the chance to participate in a variety of sports, including intra-school and inter-school competitions, festivals, and outdoor adventurous activities.
- To enhance our resources and equipment: We invest in high-quality, durable, and often specialist equipment that allows all students, regardless of their physical or sensory needs, to access the full curriculum.
How We Are Using Our Funding
At Springwell Lincolnshire, our spending is strategically planned to maximise impact. Examples of how we allocate our Sport Premium funding include:
- Hiring specialist coaches to deliver expert tuition in areas like yoga, climbing, dance, and boxing, which are excellent for developing core strength, balance, and mindfulness.
- Purchasing adaptive and sensory sports equipment to ensure all activities are accessible and engaging for every child.
- Funding transport to enable our students to participate in off-site activities, competitions, and events at local leisure centres, swimming pools, and outdoor venues.
- Providing targeted staff training on delivering inclusive sports and managing the specific SEMH needs of our pupils within a physical activity context.
- Subsidising access to outdoor and adventurous activities, such as climbing, forest schools, and residential trips, which build character, confidence, and teamwork skills.
- Introducing new health and fitness initiatives, like the ‘Daily Mile’ or well-being weeks, to embed physical activity into the daily routine of our school.
Measuring Our Impact
We rigorously monitor the impact of our Sport Premium spending to ensure it is effective and provides value for our students. We measure success through:
- Increased participation rates in events.
- Pupil voice surveys and discussions to gauge enjoyment, confidence, and their understanding of healthy lifestyles.
- Staff observations of pupils’ engagement, skill development, and improvements in self-regulation during and after physical activity.
- Tracking progress against individual physical and personal development targets.
- Feedback from parents, carers, and external visitors.
